Camp Thornwood is an immersive 4-day retreat where sex, kink, and spirit intertwine beneath the pines. Held at a secluded 100-acre former girls’ summer camp in California’s Sierra Foothills, Thornwood blends the nostalgic magic of summer camp with the raw, playful energy of a modern erotic gathering.
Brought to you by Dark Odyssey, Camp Thornwood invites a wide spectrum of adventurous souls — kinksters, queers, swingers, seekers, doms, subs, and switchy in-betweens — to explore, connect, and transform in a lush, liberating forest setting.
With world-class educators, late-night dungeon parties, sun-drenched pool scenes, ritual fire circles, and plenty of space to roam (or kneel), this is more than just an event. It’s a place you return to — in body, in memory, and in desire.
Whether diving into our four major events (Winter Fire, Fusion, Summer Camp, and Surrender) or exploring a Happy Hour, you can immerse yourself in an atmosphere of sexual energy and experimentation that will add excitement and passion to your world and create deeper levels of connection between you and your partners. Our mission is to build a magical place where you can live out your wildest fantasies and dreams, and find a home away from home as adventurers of sex, kink, connection and spirit.
Take the meal plan. Meet others. Build community - and don’t worry about bringing a thing.
At Camp Thornwood, food is part of the magic. Our all-inclusive meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, all lovingly prepared by the camp's Executive Chef, Brenden. He brings an international flair to every meal, drawing from years of cheffing in Spain, Portugal, Amsterdam, and Turkey - and yes, he bakes, too.
Dinner will be your first meal on arrival day (Thursday or Friday), and we’ll wrap things up on Monday with a leisurely brunch before you pack up and head out.
You can expect delicious, nourishing meals with vegan and vegetarian options available at every service. And best of all? You don’t have to bring any cooking gear - just show up hungry, grab a tray, and share a table. The food is good. The company is better. And the connections forged over coffee or dessert might just be the best part of camp.
We highly recommend being on the meal plan. But for those who really want to spend time cooking, washing up, hauling in their food, etc. This camp does not normally allow people to cook their own food. So if you opt out of the meal plan you will be forging a new path. Since wildfires are a major problem, ALL cooking will have to be done in a special area the camp is defining. We will provide a few gas grills and flat tops for people to share. We don’t know yet how that shared time will work out ... we expect traffic jams. In future years the camp envisions adding an outdoor wash sink for clean up, but this year there will probably be grey wash, rinse, and sanitize tubs for use. In other words, we will do our best to build an area for you to cook, but you will probably be spending a lot of time doing prep and clean up. So if you are simply sandwich eaters ... no worries. If you want to cook hot meals all weekend it’s going to take up a lot of your time that you could be out making connections and enjoying your vacation. You will be able to bring your own grill or flat top ... but you will only be able to use it in the special cooking area.
Tenting is included in your entrance fee and available to the first 300 attendees.
Camp Thornwood offers several open fields and wooded areas for tenting — but this isn’t a state park, and there are no pre-marked campsites. Instead, you’ll find flexible, first-come-first-placed zones where you can set up a reasonably sized tent. We ask that you keep your footprint modest and avoid building large or elaborate structures. This is our inaugural year, and we’re all getting a feel for how the space fits together — so a little mindfulness goes a long way.
Want to share a tent? Even better. It’s a great way to connect and conserve space.
Once tenting spots are full, you’ll need to reserve a cabin or premium lodge space to attend — so plan accordingly if you’re hoping to camp under the stars.
The Lodge is Camp Thornwood’s original bunkhouse, a central part of its former life as a youth summer camp. It features four wings, a cozy common room with a fireplace, a dining hall, an activity room, and shared multi-stall bathrooms in each wing.
Inside, you’ll find a charming mix of sleeping arrangements: single beds, upper and lower bunks, and even a few queen beds, all grouped into rooms that sleep 3, 4, 6, or 8 people. Everyone who books a spot in the Lodge will get a bed — no floor camping here.
We’ll do our best to honor group requests so you and your friends can be placed together in “cabin groups,” space allowing. Think of it like a giant jigsaw puzzle — but with more lube and less supervision.
Looking for a little extra comfort in the woods? Our Upper Camp Quad Cabins offer a premium stay at Camp Thornwood.
These 11 stand-alone cabins each feature two queen beds, with an expected occupancy of four people per cabin. Recently renovated, they’re thoughtfully designed with high ceilings, mini-split A/C units, desks, and ample space for your gear. Whether you’re looking to retreat in style, cool down between scenes, or just enjoy a quiet night with your bunkmates, these cabins are as cozy as they are classy.
They’re beautiful, comfortable — and yes, they smell like new wood and good decisions.
Want to stay in the heart of the action? The Poolside Doubles are as close as it gets.
These coveted rooms come with a king bed, air conditioning, and — the holy grail of camp luxury — their own private en suite bathrooms. That’s right: these are the only rooms at Camp Thornwood with private bathrooms.
With only three available, these rooms go fast. If you want to be close to the pool, the party, and your own shower? This is your spot.
There are 15 RV's spots available. Each spot has hookups.
Bringing a crew? The Premium Houses are perfect for groups of 6, 9, or 10 who want to stay — and play - together.
These are fully equipped homes, complete with kitchens, bathrooms, air conditioning, and porches for morning coffee or late-night debriefs. If your group loves to cook, hang out, or have a private hub between adventures, this is your ideal setup.
They’re not just cabins - they’re real houses. And they’re one of the most comfortable ways to experience Camp Thornwood as a shared retreat.
